Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay graduated
in the Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of
London.
Early Career
He assisted the
Mashantucket Pequots, a Native American Tribe to establish Foxwoods Resorts
Casino in 1990, a largest casino in United States. In 1993, he was the
in-charge of Star Cruises. During March 1999 to November 2002, he served as
Managing director of Resort World Bhd, Malaysia. A Deputy Managing Director in
September 1989 to March 1999.
During November 2002,
he promoted to the President and Chief Executive of the Genting Group, Asia's
leading and best managed multinational corporations. As a Chairman and Chief
Executive of Genting Berhad, he assisted with the expansion works of the
Resorts World Genting.
Career
Tan Sri Lim's business
skills and expertise are perfected through more than 30 years of experience in
the development of casino and leisure related businesses worldwide. Having served
the Genting Group for the past 30 years, he contributed substantially in
reinventing Genting Highlands Resort over the years as a world class City of
Entertainment.
In December 2003, he
was promoted as the Chairman of the Genting Group. He is involved in the
leisure and hospitality, power generation, oil palm plantations, property
development, biotechnology, and oil and gas business sectors. The third largest
and important business controlled by him would be the Star Cruises.
In December 2007, he
was appointed as the honorary professor of Xiamen University, China. Mr Tan
represented Genting Group and donated a total of RM 2million, to more than 100
welfare homes. He added "I am delighted to be able to gather at this event
with the people today. I can see that Genting Group is committed in giving back
to the community".

Tan Sri Lim was
married to his wife, Puan Sri Lee Kim Hua, the current richest woman in
Malaysian and they had 3 children.

- 2002 – He was bestowed the highly Prestigious National Award, the Panglima Setia Mahkota, which carries the titleship of "Tan Sri" by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong of Malaysia on 1 June 2002.
- Resorts World Genting has been voted by World Travel Awards as the "World's Leading Casino Resort in years 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010" and also voted as "Asia's Leading Casino Resort" from years 2005 to 2010
- 2006 - Tan Sri Lim led his team to win the competitive bid to build and operate Singapore’s first integrated resort on Sentosa Island, called Resorts World Sentosa
- 2009 - For his significant contributions to the leisure and travel industry, he has been named the "Travel Entrepreneur of the Year 2009" by Travel Trade Gazette (TTG) Asia and "The Most Influential Person in Asian Gaming 2009" by Inside Asian Gaming.
- 2011 – He was presented with the Asian Leader for Global Leisure and Entertainment Tourism award during the course of the Seagull Philippines Asian Leaders Awards 2011 for his significant contribution to the leisure and travel sectors.

Tan Sri Lim has
exhibited social responsibility by giving back and helping to the community and
society. As a leader, he tries to infuse energy and eagerness into his team
members to serve and help guests in need. With such, it can be seen that he
will be committed to his organizations for a long period.
With his
strong visionary foresight and entrepreneurship, it allowed him to lead Star
Cruises and Genting Hong Kong Private Limited to greater heights. Despite
having such good achievements, he remained humble. He commented in a press
release “I am humbled and honoured to receive this award. It is gratifying to know
that my ongoing efforts to define the leisure and entertainment industry in the
Philippines and globally, have been well received and acknowledged.”
